A great resource for miniature shop builders
8 von 8 finden das hilfreich If you are thinking of making your own miniature shop then this book is a great starting place.
This book has plans for five different shops in 12th scale.
There is an Edwardian toy shop, a two storey Victorian ironmongers, an Art Deco tea room, a two storey Tudor style Victorian booksellers and a two storey 1930s Grocers shop.
The instructions are well written and there are lots of diagrams.
In addition to the shop plans, there are instructions for making a range of different counters, display units and shelving units to complete your shop.
Although the book has sections on tools, materials and lighting for the beginner, I think some experience with a router would be beneficial.
The photos are really good and there is a lot of background information and ideas throughout the book.
This has to be one of my favourite books and I can't wait to start building.

Make your dolls house extra special
4 von 4 finden das hilfreich All the designs contained in this book are adapted from carpets from the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
There are 25 different designs of carpets, prayer mats and rugs. The majority of which have flowers or creatures in the design.
There is a lot of background information on the types of carpets and patterns, as well as the old silk route.
The designs are stitched using either stranded cotton, silk or crewel wool. Although there is an equivalents chart for Anchor, DMC, Madeira, Kreinik and Appletons depending on your preference.
With colour charts and photos showing the finished items. All the designs are worked in tent stitch on 22 count canvas. So good eyesight would be an advantage!
I am currently working on the dragon carpet which I love.

Ideal book for the beginner
3 von 4 finden das hilfreich A great resource for people starting out making their own dolls house miniatures.
The chapters on materials and techniques are very well written, giving the novice all the information they need to start making their own realistic miniatures.
Room by room this book shows you how to make over 50 different mini's with illustrated instructions.
My favourite projects are:
BREAD - I use the bread recipe shown for all my bread, it is the most realistic one I have found.
BASKETS - These are great fun to make and fill.
MIXING BOWL - Just like Mum's old creamware bowl.
STORAGE JARS - Traditional terracotta jars which look great on the kitchen shelf.
DINNER SERVICE & TEA SET - I found the cups difficult to make but with a little practice I could make a fairly good tea cup. I like making my own because I can paint them the colour I want.
PICTURE FRAMES - I make frames to mount pictures that have been cut from magazines. They look really good.
DOLL - I loved making the dolls although they looked a bit freaky. I think more practice is needed.
There are more projects which I haven't got round to yet including flowers, clocks, tiles, pots and pans, even the kitchen sink!
Why not have a go yourself?
