all good
I installed this into my htpc as it has an old mobo with no usb3 header, but the case I put it in does. so instead of mucking about with installing a usb3 expansion card and trying the find drivers for openelec this was the better solution.

not all that
this product is not very good. the angle of the back plate is nowhere near a right angle meaning the "teeth" do not reach the pci slot when the plate is secured, or the back plate is hanging off if pushed in fully. This also have a very loud hum coming from the centre/subwoofer connection. I don't know if this is related to the ill-fitting problem, but nothing I did fixed it.
TL;DR - bought a different one.
