Seiko kinetic capactior replacement
I have a Seiko Kinetic that would run flat after 2 days and was no longer fully charged, even if being worn for a month or more.
In essence, the issue was the capacitor not holding charge due to having run flat several times in the years that I have owned the watch.
Looking at the case back of the watch, I saw that my particular watch had a 5M62 movement and needed a capacitor to suit.
Tools I used: watch case opener tools, watch link remover tool, jewelers screwdrivers (magnetic and non magnetic), jewelers tweezers.
Using case opening tools, I opened the back, unscrewed the rotor, removed the gear, and the 2 screws for the retaining cover.
I could then remove the insulator film, capacitor and reverse the process to reinstall the new capacitor (the capacitor looks like a button cell battery).
Note that the gear under the rotor needs to align with a small gear that charges the capacitor. Turn the gear to check that it aligns with the small gear in the body.
If your watch fails to charge, the gear may have been reinstalled upside down and does not align with the small gear. Simply remove the rotor, flip over the gear and reinstall the rotor.
Tips: using a large toothpick can stop the rotor spinning when removing and reinstalling. The screws for the retaining cover can take patience to line up and magnetic/non magnetic tools might help.
After I had replaced the capacitor, the watch was fully charged within a day.
