I've been an audiophile for 45 years and first bought these headphones 25 years ago. They can't be compared to closed-back digital reference headphones ($100 or over) but what I like about the ATH-P3 phones is that they're not bass-heavy nor heavy on the midranges either. Somehow they represent all of the necessary frequencies in a pleasing way. If the original engineer mixed well, you'll hear it with these. EQ is always important for the best possible listening experience, especially with headphones and these work well for every kind of music from classical to metal. Again, always EQ your player first. These phones are light and a bit fragile, but very comfortable musically satisfying. They're light and comfortable to wear. At this price, that's 5 stars.
