Robust, reliable laptop which also serves as a conversation piece.
Toshiba really knew what they were doing when they built the Tecra 550 line starting around 1996. These machines are very rugged and offer a surprising degree of flexibility in order to suit a user's needs.
Although these notebooks are comprehensively outperformed by every computer (and even some tablets) offered for sale today, the fact that I own 3 notebooks of the Tecra line (all from 1997-1998), and that all 3 are still in running condition, attests to the reliability and durability of these dependable machines.
Due to the age of the 550, I would recommend that one buy these machines only if they have a working knowledge of computer hardware and software as these older laptops tend to require a bit of looking after considering their vintage, but they are still quite stout and can be pressed into service for pretty much any ordinary task (such as web-browsing or word-processing) without considerable drama.

Nice model!
Ordered this after a visit to the USS New Jersey and being disappointed not to find something like this in their gift shop. While it is not quite as detailed as the USS Missouri model in 1:700 by Forces of Valor, it is well-done with an entirely die cast hull. Unlike the Forces of Valor model, this one shows New Jersey in her 1980s configuration, and it is how she still appears today as a museum ship. The turrets traverse, but the guns do not elevate. The 5-inch turrets are all fixed. Flat plate castings on the air search radar located on the superstructure are entirely undetailed - slight disappointment - but all in all, a fine model considering that it’s a pre-finished die cast.
