A lot of variety to help the students remember what's being taught.
I have used several of the Exploring Creation notebooking journals. They are awesome additions to the hard cover of the same name. They have a nice variety of activities which enhance the student's ability to retain the information being taught.

If you want a good foundation for cursive writing, D'Nealian is the one to invest time and money into.

Attention holding material!
If you are looking for a book to hold a child's attention, have multi activities, varied in size and scope, then this is the book for you! I recommend getting the notebooking journal that goes with this.
