Does Sonic Next-Gen live up to its hype?
Let me start by saying that I'm writing a review about a game that wasn't even truly finished. You can find out this by simply reading the game's manual: The game's manual mentions things that aren't even in-game (like leveling up Sonic's skills). This is because Sonic Team was rushed in making the game, and a lot of things were left out. Lots of bug testing, for example. Sonic 360/PS3 is VERY buggy, and glitches run rampant. Why, when I first bought the game and sat down with it, I had two Game Overs on the first level, Wave Ocean (mind you, I completed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog with all emblems and A-Ranks. It's not a lack of skill that caused that). The reason I died so much was because of the rampant glitches that occured at strange points. By strange points, I mean during the automated segments. If you played Sonic Adventure 1 or 2, you know of what I speak: the small segments where the game takes over for you, and does an outstanding trick, then gives you back control (such as running from the killer whale in Sonic Adventure). Unfortunately, half of the auto-segments of this game have bad algorhythms, and, through no fault of yours, will ruin your chances of an S-Rank on a level because you were throw (by the auto-segment) off of the level. Anyway, enough of my griping. Now, onto the review: GRAPHICS- There's no denying it: this game is pretty. On both the 360 and PS3, the game looks darn good. All of the visuals are clean and crisp, and the backgrounds are detailed very well. Never have deformed animals looked so good (especially Rouge. O_o') In the graphics department, this game gets a 9/10. MUSIC- All of the music is done well. The music does a good job of conveying the surroundings, and will easily remind you of Sonic Adventure's music. Certainly there's no "Escape from the City" or anything, but all in all, it's good. The sound effects are also effectual, with everything from the nostalgic sound of collecting rings, to the sounds of explosions. All in all, the music/sound gets a 9/10. STORY- The game's story could be considered better than the previous Sonic titles in both presentation and scripting, but that's all a matter of opinion. If you liked SA1/2 then you'll most likely enjoy this too. GAMEPLAY- This is where the game gets hurt. The gameplay is actually all right (as far as the concept of run here, hit this goes), but the glitches and bad level design sort of kill the game. One should not get a Game Over in the first level because they were thrown THROUGH the floors or walls in different spots. There's a segment in Crisis City where Sonic will go into an automated sequence then miss the rail at the end. This only happens about 1/5th of the time, sure, but there's really no way around it. I mean, if you try to ask for help in S-Ranking that stage, the best you'll get is a, "Quit holding the control stick during the auto-segments", which you may not be doing already, and it certainly does not help the fact that 20% of the time you're screwed. I've also heard that I'm a special case, and I'm too hard on the game because nothing that happened to me has happened to anyone else on this planet. Well, that may be the case, but no glitches should be forgiven. The game was rushed and it blaringly shows, and in the end all you're left with is a game only a true, blue Sonic fan would force himself to love. Gameplay scores a sorry 3/10. If you're not a Sonic fan, I'd stay away.

Dragon Ball Z Movies 1-3
The Dragon Ball Z movie bosxet 1 has Deadzone, World's Strongest, and Tree of Might, the first three DBZ movies. Deadzone's the first of the three, and a great movie to kick it all off with. In this movie, Garlic Jr. wants revenge for his father being banished to a different realm many years ago, and attempts to gain immortality with the seven Dragonballs. While collecting the Dragonballs, they end up picking up Gohan, Goku's son, because he had a Dragonball on his hat. Goku rushes headfirst into Garlic's lair to rescue his son and stop Garlic. It gets points for being the first, even if it is pretty short. World's Strongest is the second of the three, and the longest movie in this set. Dr. Wheelo was sealed away by an avalanche for many years and was thought to have died, but he preserved his brain and continued his experiments. After years of research, he was able to have his creations gather the seven Dragonballs so he could wish for his lab to come back to the surface after being under ice for years. Now that he's free, he needs a new body so he can truly be the greatest in the world. Thus begins the search for the world's strongest... This movie is entertaining to watch, and even has Master Roshi fighting for a bit. It's worth picking up the set just for this one movie. Lastly, there's Tree of Might. Turles, a Saiyan who escaped the destruction of his planet Vegeta, is bent on creating a giant tree that will drain the entire life from on the planet. The fruit from this tree can make someone the strongest fighter in the universe, since they contain the life of the entire planet in them. Goku, Krillen, Gohan, and the rest of Earth's Special Forces must join together to stop Turles and his crew. This movie isn't too bad, although the time period the movie is set in is one where every other character than Goku is weak (It's set sometime after King Kai's training with Goku, but before the fight with Vegeta, since Tien, Piccolo, etc. are still there), so there's a good deal of 'Goku worship' where he is the only one that can do anything. Annoying, but if you can look past that, it's actually a great movie worth watching. So there you have it. Three movies that are sure to entertain DBZ fans. Also, I'd recommend finding the uncut versions since a lot of the funny stuff was removed from the edited versions (In Deadzone, Krillin and Goku are looking for Gohan inside of Garlic's lair. Well, Gohan has to use the bathroom, so he just goes wherever he can. Well, he ends up peeing on Krillin and that's how they find them. In the edited version, Krillin just magically finds him). Well, if you're a Dragonball Z fan, this is definitely a good thing to add to your collection. I definitely recommend it.

An excellent addition to the Gamecube RPG library.
If you like good, solid RPGs, this is a definite pickup. Lost Kingdoms II has an impressive card battling system combined with real-time movement. Gameplay- The game's battle system is quite well done. Cards are randomly pulled from the deck and then assigned a button (A,B,X,Y). To attack, you simply press the button for the card you want to use. The numerous types of cards and effects are an alluring aspect, mainly because it's not the same thing every time. You have Weapons which you use to target the enemy yourself. You can use anything from a jellyfish shooting a lightning bolt to an armored knight who spears the nearest enemy. There are Independents which walk around and attack the enemies for you. There are Helpers which do everything from raising stats to healing you and your independents. There are Traps, which usually stay in one place when unleashed and do tremendous damage once a condition is fulfilled. Lastly, there are Transform cards which turn you into the monster on the card (For example, you can become a large stone golem which can 1 hit KO enemies with ease). All cards in the game come in one of these categories, and there are plenty of cards to choose from (I haven't taken the time to count them all, but there are tons), so there are plently of strategies to be used to defeat tough bosses. The leveling system is also quite nice, because not only does your main character gain experience, but so do the cards you battle with. When enough experience has been gained, the cards can become newer, stronger versions, or even duplicate themselves so you have two of that card to use, and because of that, it's a good idea to experiment with all the cards you get. Sometimes the weakest card you have has the tendency to become the strongest one you'd place into your deck. Anyway, the gameplay is excellent. 10/10. Story- Eh, The story isn't much better than the last game's. You play as a thief who works with a band... Of thieves. This girl, like the heroine of the last game has a Runestone. Most of the story centers around the Runestone and why she has it. As far the thieves go, the thieves try to steal a lot of things from a country that doesn't want those things stolen. Then all heck breaks loose. You know the story. Well, even though I talked about it in a bad manner, it's not really THAT bad. 6/10 Graphics- The graphics are okay, but not really what one would expect for the Gamecube. This title definitely did not push the GCN's hardware limits... 7/10. Music- Not bad. Not insanely great, but not too bad. Some of the catchier tunes may get caught in your head after a while. 8/10. Controls and Ease of Use- This game shouldn't be hard to get into. Unlike the first Lost Kingdoms game, this game doesn't have random battles that will disorient you and make you wander in the wrong direction for 10 minutes. The random battles now are where enemies pop up near you, you defeat them or continue running in the direction you were to get away. Like Diablo only with cards, right? _ Nevermind. The controls are tight, and the game isn't very fast paced, so you can take your time getting the hang of it. Not something I'd let my grandma play, but that's a comepletely different story. 10/10 on controls and learning curve. Overall- + Very entertaining battle system that doesn't get old. + Use of cards means multiple strategies for people who like that kind of stuff. + It's pretty cheap now! - Story isn't so great.
