BATTERY FOR Creative Labs Zen Vision M 30GB ACCU

Battery compatible but the controller that comes with it is not.

This was advertised as being suitable for the Zen Vision M. It physically fitted but the device would not recognize that it was charged. I finally had to remove the charge monitor PCB in the battery (it's under the tape at the top) and replace it with the Creative charge monitor PCB from the original dead battery that came with the Zen. It then worked. This was a very fiddly process (it's not plug-in: this involved fine soldering under a strong lens) and I take the view that the supplied battery should not be advertised as compatible with the Zen if people have to change circuit boards around to make it work (I understand from a forum that Creative's firmware is designed to be 'picky' about monitor devices to stop people using generic batteries). The battery itself - ie the thing that holds charge - is fine and it's good to have the Zen working again.
