Classic, Dependable and Accurate
Anyone building rolling stock in HO scale who prefers metal wheels should consider using these. The brass needlepoint axles measure 1.031". The blackened wheels are smooth and true, being turned. These were the standard wheel sets used in Walthers' metal truck kits but they will work as replacement wheel sets for other brands as well.

Woodland Scenics Classic
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich The Woodland Scenics Motorcycle and Sidecar kit is like many of their offerings: unique, useful and worth the work. It is unique in that there aren't many other motorcycles available in HO Scale for an early era. I'm no motorcycle expert, but this appears to be appropriate for the 1920's era I model, through the present.
It is useful in that l can see this kit fitting into just about any model railroad layout or diorama. Older motorcycles are always being restored so this one could appear on a modern layout without seeming anachronistic. The sidecar is a nice feature that would create an interesting focal point in a detailed scene.
Finally, I think it is worth the effort needed to build the kit; which could be a little or a lot. That depends on how well the casting was produced. Earlier runs may not have as much flash and mold damage and will not require as much trimming and filing before painting. The one I bought will need a little work from a motor tool and fine grinding bit as there is considerable flash buildup on an exposed part. However this did not cause me to rate down the kit as I have built a few Woodland Scenics Mini-scenes before and have come to expect it. With enough effort any of their products build into terrific models.

Red Ball Quality Parts
This is the classic "fishbelly" center sill produced by Red Ball. It represents a prototype construction popular from the 1920s through the 1960s. At the time this detail part was originally made the alternative was paper or wood, cut or carved to make a crude representation of the prototype. This part allowed modelers to upgrade kits from other manufacturers or use in their own scratchbuilt rolling stock.
As someone who rebuilds vintage rolling stock this part is practically essential. Original Red Ball parts generally had very little flash to file away. The lateral braces slot together easily into the main sills. I use superglue (cyanoacrylate) to attach the parts to the floor of the car body. One particularly nice feature of the Red Ball part vs similar parts from other manufacturers is the inclusion of the slots for the brake levers.
