If the phrase “small town N. Carolina” makes you smile
If the phrase “small town North Carolina” makes you smile, Raney is a "must read."
If any of these real places – Harnett County, Dunn, Buies Creek, Erwin or any other dozens of dots on the map – where Saturday nights were spent circling the town square – bring a grin of nostalgic warmth – then Raney is worth your time.
Why it is called “Juvenile Fiction” I have no idea. The book is not Juvenile, and at times, I have my serious doubts as to if it is truly fiction. Edgerton writes with so much warmth, experience, humor and reality that I often get the feeling that comes when looking at a masterful painting and wondering out loud if it was done with a brush or a camera. Raney is North Carolina in the 60s and 70s, its America and its beautiful.
There aren’t many books I’ve read more than once. A Tale of Two Cities is one. Raney is another. And I’ll continue to read it as long as I can smile.

A must have for lovers of Tango
If you saw the excellent film based on the 2005 concert Cafe de los Maestros - then this is a must have sound track. C De Los M is concert/film/sound track about the very soul of Argentina. I know of no other art form so closely connected to a people like the Tango is connected to Argentina. This CD and the film are a moving and significant experience.
