Sublime sax
Another excellent album from the late, great tenor saxophonist, Michael Brecker. A more subdued outing this time, focusing on ballads, with a guest appearance from James Taylor. Friend and frequent collaborator, Pat Metheny plays here, too. Some of the vibe reminded me of vintage recordings of Michael Franks, when Brecker was a frequent sideman.

One of his best...
I was very pleasantly surprised by 39 Steps, one of the last John Abercrombie albums before his passing. After several listens, I feel that it is one of best... ...and that is saying something because I have heard dozens of his work. Do not hesitate to purchase this excellent CD!

ECM live date from 2003 -- superb sound!
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I actually attended the gig that this concert recording is from, in April of 2003 in Voss, Norway. This CD is an edited version of that approximately hour-and-a-half concert, but it still flows like what I witnessed, and the sound here is better than I remember. The concert had many songs strung together to sound like one non-stop piece. All in all, this is an excellent document of a concert that was Norwegian guitarist, Terje Rypdal's salute to the Miles Davis' Bitches Brew era (Vossabrygg is Norwegian for "VossaBrew"). An all-star event, with many musicians from Terje's career on ECM Records, including who I think is maybe his greatest collaborator, trumpeter, Palle Mikkelborg. Highly recommended.
