David Harvey offers his analysis of why capitalism is a system doomed to failure
David Harvey has thought long and hard about the essence of capitalism as a system of socio-political arrangements and institutions. His has found guidance in his analysis from studying the perspectives contained in the writings of Karl Marx. My own guidance comes most significantly from Henry George, who argued that the world up to his time (the late 19th century) never really enjoyed the potential benefits of a market system that rewarded investment in capital goods. Both Marx and George argued for the public collection of the rent of land. However, George argued against the public collection of income earned producing goods and providing services. George argued that the prevention of monopolies, and the monopolization of nature would be sufficient to ensure the creation of sustainable social democracies. David Harvey does not agree, of course, but his arguments are worthy of consideration and a response, which I intend to provide at some point.

Incredible story telling
Foyle's War is a must watch series for anyone interested in this period of history. The writing and acting are superb.

Professor Stilwell Takes on Mainstream Economics and Urges a New Approach
The author, Professor Frank Stilwell, has undertaken an enormous task, which is to explain to readers why it is vitally important that we take an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing how economies function within systems of socio-politlcal arrangements and institutions. This book should be required reading by all students studying the social sciences.
