DEMO DISC OF THE YEAR: This movies oozes colors. The monochromatic color of the outdoor scenes is like wasabi for your eyes. The whites of the snow and sunlight will punish your display and see what's what when it comes to speculatar highlights. The indoor night club scenes are insane and the colors will either ooze out of your display or be crushed by 8bit+FRC of inferior displays. The soundtrack is mixed extremely well and will give your Dolby Atmos soundbar a serious benchmark.

Two Very Different Rides

Right around 2011-2012, disaster movies were back in action. It seems like pre-covid, studios would rush to create movies that were similar but different. This combo is like Deep Impact vs Armageddon. Olympus Has Fallen, has some great scenes for demo purposes of your home theater audio system. The C-130 attack scene is especially great for spatial effects and subwoofer flexing. I did not enjoy the story that much. The video is pretty dark as the power gets cut to the white house, so think more like you're watching Syphon Filter the movie. Gerard Butler does as good a job as he does in action movies, and in this one he is pretty much a one-man army. I found the antagonist to be boring and uninspired. And it has Morgan Freeman so the similarities to Deep Impact are almost laughable. Slower pace, weaker story, some emotional scene to bring impact but it all falls flat. Enter White House Down. This movie ROCKS. Channing Tatum in this is an absolute treat. The antagonist played by the legendary James Wood is freaking awesome. I miss his acting a lot. Jason Clark as the ex-delta force disavowed soldier looking for revenge is great. And then we have Jaime Foxx as president of the United States of America. Move over Obama, President Sawyer kicks ass. This movie is much more vibrant, and I love how Channing's movie daughter is smart and doesn't act like a typical helpless child. And then, you have Lance Reddick as the commanding Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff EVER! The stakes are high, and Channing Tatum really brings a lightness to his role that keeps you rooting for him. It's a little cheesy sometimes; "Keep your hands off my Jordan's!" but over all a very much feel-good ending and justice is served.
