Samsung Galaxy S - great kit!
As a newcomer to the smart phone thing, I love this phone. I started with the Apollo, which is about £200 cheaper, and which does most of the same stuff, but on a small screen, which becomes tricky if you are doing lots of typing, of for reading "normal" web pages easily. As it was a gift, I was able to go for the cost of the bigger Galaxy S, although I would have been happy with the Apollo had I had to pay for the upgrade myself!
Best features - gps map, fast wi-fi internet, so it's like having an extra PC at home for internet - slower but good internet via mobile connection, swype typing (this is cool, and fast - I thought I wouldn't get it, but I did), Web page zoom is really easy - in fact the whole interface is very easy to use - stuff in the right places, great finger scrolling - SO much better than my wife's irritating tocco lite which scrolls badly.
Menu wise, I know where the stuff is from the Apollo, and I could set up everything as I wanted it from scratch in an hour. I also recommend the T-Mobile PAYG tariff, for blokes like me who just want to surf and don't need to actually PHONE anyone - just £20 for internet for 6 months! Really glad I didn't go for a £35 a month con from one of the shops - I will be saving £35 a month from August onwards - thanks ebay!
The gmail account I had seemed to help get things going faster - it was certainly easy, and my email and texts all pop up just fine. Massive andriod apps range available, many free.
Worst features - "swype" turns on only from holding finger on the input box - which is hard to discover, but works fine once known. Otherwise very intuitive and friendly. Like the iphone, apparently, it is a problem that it is hard to put it down

Colourful, clear to follow, modern feeling theatre style production
A good dvd for classroom teaching (apart from the bonking donkey moment!).
Lots of colour.
The added boy character is a shame, but overall it strikes the balance between magic and funny
