One of my very Favorites!
I’m a retired kindergarten teacher with 32 year of experience and expertise in the public and private K classroom with my long list of “must read every year to the children!” Mr Willowby’s Christmas Tree is my most favorite Christmas-themed book and is useful in a math lesson using paper or 3-dimensional Christmas trees and a pocket chart to show children how to put objects in order by SIZE from largest to smallest (as demonstrated informally the story itself. It is quite delightful, and recently I read it for the first time to my own 6-year-old grandson ( who was not interested in the least as I was introducing it to him and whose attention was captured immediately when I opened the book to the very first page!) My own 40-year-old book has extremely captivating black and green drawings on white pages; and even though it was terribly damaged when my home was flooded after Hurricane Harvey in Houston several years ago, my grandson was spellbound by the illustrations and by the story itself! He loved the action and antics in the delightful story , and we laughed out loud together again and again! Afterward, he asked to hear it again, and helped me cut ( from green paper) seven trees of smaller and smaller sizes and then was so pleased with himself for being able to arrange them by size from largest to smallest! This book should be in every teacher’s and child’s personal library, and the ones I purchased from EBay were in very good condition and had colored illustrations. I recommend the original drawings if one can be found, but the colored ones are lovely as well!!!!
