For lovers of Russian Opera, a must-have
Generally terrific performances of Russian Opera classics. And you can't get more authentic performances than those from this team.

Time travel to coloratura singing before Dame Joan and Maria Callas
Lina Pagliughi, although big as a tea-cozy, was one of THE coloratura sopranos in the 1930s and into the 40s. Her voice is probably similar to that for which Donizetti wrote the opera, and was recorded long before Sutherland and Callas changed the world-view on coloratura style. And yes, somehow Valletti handles the 9 high Cs in his big aria just fine, long before Pavarotti made them famous.
For the lover of Italian singing, although slightly tarnished by the somewhat over age of the soloists and 1940s radio sonics, the recording, like many of the early Cetra recordings from which this was taken, provides a time machine for a visit to pre-1950 Italian music-making.
