Small and inexpesive S-Bus alternative
Well, I am finally ready to write up something about these little SB-9029 servos.
I bought a bunch of them as a start into the S-Bus world. Futaba servos are just so expensive! The issue was, in the beginning I had no way to program them to use with my 8J. They all came on channel 4 and worked fine as standard digital servos. As a digital servo, these are a bit more expensive that some others but still less than Futaba. Definitely not the quality but that's not what I was going for here.
I bought the FrSky S-Bus programmer for less than $20. Does not work with these servos. It does "read" the channel number as 4 but will not set it to a new channel. Don't bother with that one unless you have Futaba or FrSky devices.
I decided that I wanted telemetry as well so I upgraded to the Futaba 10J. It has T-FHSS S-Bus2 and will program S-Bus servos and devices from the back of the radio. This also did not work for the Corona 9029's. Again, it will read the channel number as well as other settings but will not write out any changes.
Still stuck and wanting to upgrade the 10J firmware anyway, I bought the CIU-3 Futaba S-Bus programmer. Upgraded the 10J just fine. Downloaded the latest S-Link software for programming S-Bus devices. STILL didn't work.
Finally, it occurred to me. The PC-Link software is still available for older Futaba servos. Is it possible? I downloaded that and wouldn't you know it, it works!
You can't change all of the parameters available in the software like dead-band, but you can change all the ones that matter. Channel, of course, I tried 1-8. I also changed and used Reverse/Normal modes. Others include Neutral offset and Travel Adjust (End Point Limits).
All in all these are great little servos for the money and you can save some weight when it comes to small aircraft by using the S-Bus simple wiring setup. They have a bit of a rough travel end-to-end but if you are looking for that kind of precision, you should spend the money on Futaba.
Enjoy and happy flying.

External Voltage Cable for Futaba R7008SB Rx CA-RVIN-700
This is an exact replacement for the Futaba CA-RVIN-700 cable sold for $18! It works with the Futaba R7008SB FASST Rx as well as the newer T-FHSS R3008SB receiver that comes with the 10J Telemetry system.
