good plastic box for travel
very good plastic sketcher's box by Winsor & Newton, "student grade" watercolors; can slip in a pocket or pack and not worry too much about it getting lost when traveling--a friend recommended removing the Cotman 1/2 pans and replacing them with the higher quality, more expensive artist's colors

Britains Life Guard
This is a terrific model/toy of one of the Lifeguards (Life Guards?) made by the Britains company. The horse is well cast in metal, and painted with glossy enamel. (For those who haven't seen one of these up close, there is a small hole in the top of the horse's back, and the soldier can be removed/reattached, as there is a small post below the saddle that fits into that hole). These are hand-painted, so there is a little variety in how the horses and soldiers are painted, but the quality is generally very good). I think parts of the soldier's uniform (and the sword & scabbard) are plastic. The saddle pad/fleece? feels like rubber or some kind of flexible plastic. The horse stands up well on a hard, level surface. Other versions which were made with the horse attached to a rectangular metal base would work better if the models/toys are going to played with on a carpet or set up on a sloping surface, or any place where a table-top display might get bumped.
