Resident Evil Masterpiece
1 von 2 finden das hilfreich It took me 7 hours straight to beat the first Resident Evil game.
You would think that with such dedication to the first incarnation, I would be foaming at the mouth for any information about the highly anticipated sequel. Sadly, at the time, Resident Evil took a backseat to my other interests.
I never played Resident Evil 2 when it came out. I never rented the game. I never even borrowed it from a friend. The only opportunity I got to interact with it's engrossing storyline was when I purchased Resident Evil Director's Cut. That game came with a demo for Resident Evil 2, which I thought to be truly excellent. Make your way across Raccoon city battling zombies?? How does that not make your mouth water?
So, fast forward 10 years. I obtain a cheap psOne and manage to find a brand new copy of Resident Evil 2 for an adequate price on eBay. I have played every "true" RE game. That is, of course, discounting the "gun game" series. Resident Evil 2 is an epic game. Resident Evil 2 was for us then, what Fallout 3 is for us now. Well maybe not that large, but for 1998, pretty damn close.
It took the Resident Evil formula, injected it with adrenaline and we were presented with a gaming experience stronger than being at ground zero of a nuclear explosion.
The 3d pre-rendered backgrounds were back, but seemed to be higher resolution. The game play retained quirks found in the first RE with a few new tricks to enhance the game, like mixing ammunition and upgrading your gun with various parts to make it more powerful.
The game is so large, it takes place between two characters over two different discs. Not only that, but you can choose to select between normal modes and alternative modes that will move items and objects from their normal locations into different areas to make the game more challenging. Add to this, unlockables, and you really have a game ahead of it's time.
I really have yet to play a game that bears the Resident Evil moniker that has such an engaging storyline. The intro cinematic fmvs are very well done, considering how they were rendered for ancient Playstation hardware. If you are a Resident Evil fan, you must play this game. Otherwise don't call yourself a fan.
