Rollerball - Original
For me, the iconic Seventies film about a dystopic near future. A world run by super-corporations, where the population is kept from asking too many questions, thanks to the bread and circuses that is Rollerball. From the sinister Bach opening, through the brutal, but engaging, game sequences, to the amazingly shot final scene, this remains one of my all-time favourite films. James Caan has never played a role better than he plays Jonathan E, and the rest of the casting is equally brilliant. The remake managed to convey almost none of the message or menace of the original. For me, it's real power lies in it's utter believability and the questions it makes me ask myself. If you haven't seen Rollerball, you really should.
