Brings to life this remarkable period of adventure and exploration
Well written captivating account of this remarkable vessel. Palin brings the characters to life and also interjects his own experiences of travel in the polar regions. The story of the ship's record breaking Antarctic explorations then the ill-fated Arctic search for the North West Passage is not well known until now, but hopefully this book will change that.

Defaults to wrong time-zone
The unit is attractive and compact with a bright, clear display if viewed straight on. It loses clarity if you view it from an angle. The outdoor sensor works well too. My main issue with the unit is that the Radio Controlled clock function automatically sets itself to the wrong time-zone. You can manually set it to read the correct time but it re-sets itself at least once a day, which is frustrating. There is no help in the manual on how to overcome this issue. I would recommend buying a different weather station, one that does not have the Radio Control function but simply a "normal" clock.

Panasonic KX-TG1100 digital cordless [hone
A really good entry level digital phone. The speach clarity is excellent for both the microphone and the speaker in the earpiece. The handset is lightweight with good battery life, which are two standard AA rechargeables. This should make for cheap battery replacement when the recharge performance tails off in a few years.
This phone replaces my old BT Synergy 2120 phone which died after more than ten years of service. The Panasonic is superior in terms of weight, useful range from the base station and reception volume. The downsides of the Panasonic are the limited range of rather shrill ringtones available and the orange backlight can make the display difficult to read in bright light. Because it is a basic model it does not have speakerphone capability and a second handset would be a useful extra.
To sum up if you are looking for a good quality, simple to use digital cordless phone at a very reasonable price then the Panasonic KX-TG1100 is the one that I recommend.
