VINTAGE PHILIPS VIDEO RECORDER VR540

Good VCR

Had one of these and Philips always seemed to manage to get the best from VHS. For some reason another reviewer doesn't get that parts for ancient VCRs are hard to come by. This is hardly a surprise, but given they are cheap and plentiful used why would you care?

.. but if you actually *like* drum and bass ..

..then this warrants 4/5. It's not the dark, deep Photek of old, but it's still worth a listen. He seems to have discovered dance music, which is no bad thing, as the old, extremely sparse photek was not to everyone's taste.

Nice remote, but rendered useless by closure of cloud services

Having set mine up a while ago I actually quite like using this remote. But the big issue is that every single one of these out there in the world today are now immediately obsolete because one4all have pulled the plug on the related cloud configuration services that it depends upon. Yes, every single one of these remotes now cannot be reprogrammed. If you've got one, ready-programmed, you can continue to use it, but you can't reprogram it if you get a new device or want to change the configuration. These are now dead meat on the used market.
