The story is one of the greats, so I'll just comment on this edition.
3 von 3 finden das hilfreich This is a carefully edited text, to bring it as close as possible to what Tolkien wanted. Many typos have been corrected. Additions have been made that he wanted but were not included due to cost, such as the color plates. The map of Middle-Earth has had corrections and additions from the poster and Unfinished Tales. Some family-trees have been added.
Physically the book is nice. It comes in a slipcase. The paper is opaque enough so the text on the other side does not come through (a problem when large books are printed on thin paper). The font is very readable (unlike the 2nd edition of the Silmarillion). Illustrations are clean (unlike the 75th anniversary of the Hobbit). The use of red text for some (maybe all?) of the invented language phrases and runes is a nice touch. Good to look at and hold.
In my opinion, this is the book Tolkien had in mind when he went to the publisher.
