Romancing High Fashion

This is the story of two 26 inch Jumeau dolls, Marie and France who were created as ambassadors of France by the fashion houses and industries of France. These were designed in 1939 as gifts for the two young English Princesses, the future Queen Elizabeth II and Princes Margaret Rose. Not only did many high fashion houses and jewelers join in making the trousseux for the dolls, but also the manufactuers of Citron created two minature automobiles for these two young lady dolls of fashion. The dolls were also provided with fur coats, as well as a minature baby buggie and baby bed. What I loved the most was the full page pictures of the 1939 fashions created for the dolls in full color. I especially liked the suit made with water melon pink with black dots combined with the bright green with black dots. The dolls were displayed in England and made a tour of Canada to raise money used for charity. They and many of their outfits were on display at Windsor casle in 1995, but more research is needed to determine if they still are on display. Great book for a wet afternoon for any doll collector or Royal watcher.
