Cyrus Faryar - Islands
This fine baritone singer/songwriter has an easy laid-back delivery. His concept album contains songs that allude to a paradise just beyond the horizon. Much in the vein of Jimmie Spheeris, Cyrus tends to be just as melodious while a bit less introspective, but it all works well. Good arrangements and production/sound help make this album a keeper: welcome to the south Pacific and a peaceful tropical island.

As a budget CD, it's worth a listen, but it's not for the fan of classic Strawbs.
The cover photo includes Rod Coombs, their drummer from their "classic" period. He is not in the band during this concert. The sound is OK, but not remarkable. The band seems tired, performance seems forced.

A good solid prog-rock/folk-rock/psychedelic effort for a first release.
I bought this album on vinyl in '69. Despite a cover image that could elicit disdain, the music is actually quite good; the lyrics at times introspective, but at other times nonsensical hogwash. And despite Peter Rowan's barely acceptable lead guitar playing, he has surrounded himself with some very good musicians, among whom are David Grisman, John Nagy, and Billy Mundi. If you can deal with the weak points here, and they are fairly unobtrusive, this is an album worth owning. I'm still listening to it after 44 years.
