Normally I´m not a test report writer, but in this case I think I should share my experience. Appr. 2 years ago I´ve bought a used Copland CSA 515, because a guy from Norway recommended this amp for a Magnepan 1.7 , and I have to admit that this combination is really magical. The first weeks I was running the amp with the stock Edicron tubes, which was way better than my former much more expensive solid state amp. Then I´ve changed the tubes into the PSVANE 12AX7 , and I was really impressed about the more punch and much more headroom, a really good combo for Rock music. During the following months I have noticed a lack of clarity in the bass range and the lower midrange. The sound was not refined in this range, I tend to describe it like a bloat. Don´t get me wrong, the PSVANE is a fine tube, but far far away from the Sylvania NOS tube. First time when I tried the Sylvania the sound was really harsh and almost unbearable and I was intented to resell these tubes, but thank god i didn´t !! I have figured out that I had to attenuate the tweeter with a 2.2 Ohm resistor to get a linear (for my ears) frequency response. Now I do have an absolutely killer combo !!! Never, really never I enjoyed Eric Claptons Unplugged so much , Jazz music is really magical now, it sounds like a life gig. I would call the PSVANE as a "Poser" tube, really not bad at all , but by far not the best. The Sylavania tube is extremely tight in the bass range, super fast, and it is able to show every subtle detail. Could it be any better ? I don´t know ! I´m a Hifi enthusiast for more than 30 years now, but I have never been more impressed ! ENJOY the music and tube rolling, :-)
