Wenn, ja wenn, dann aber….
Das System kostet etwa 280€, soweit so gut. Will man aber wissen
was man tatsächlich für rads Geld bekommt, braucht man eine Stereoanlage die mindestens das 10 fache kostet. Besser das
30 fache…Denon sollten immer an Step Ups betrieben werden,
und schon ein wirklich guter ST7 von Ortofon ist wie Sand im Getriebe.
Das sollte schon eine andere Liga sein. Dazu am besten eine
Röhrenvorstufe. Dann bekommt man wofür viele bereit sind ein
Vielfaches zu bezahlen. Ich betreibe parallel ein DL301, ebenfalls
jenseits seiner Preisklasse. Viel besser wird’s nicht.

If the curtains fall you can hear the truth.
First, a Step-Up should not have any own sound. You want to hear the cartridge, and not the Step-Up. But almost every Step-Up is a bottle neck,
right after the cartridge. That means maximal effects to the sound, it is
the most important first amplification of the fragile MC signal. If you are using a denon AU S1 for this, you will reveal the truth of any Denon cartridge and you will hear how those MCs actually sound. There is no bottle neck anymore. Its true High End. A good MM stage (like an an ear834) and you will hear your records like never before.

Good price, good Step-Up. But pretty far from the best.
The Ortofon ST7 was my first step-up when I started my dive into the
MC universe. I was using it with an Eroica Lx, a denon dl103, and a denon
dl301. If your cartridge goes above 40 kHz this Step-Up will be a bottle neck. Now I am using my denon dl301 with a denon AU-S1, and the sound is very smooth, warm, wide open and without any hum. But of course this is not the sound of the Step-Up, it’s the native sound of the cartridge. Same with the dl-103. I am using the st7 with the dl103 now. It sounds fantastic, but it’s not the same. Even here some soul of the dl103 is lost. But you can be sure, the Ortofon ST7 is a good deal, if you don’t pay to much for it. And it’s very gentle with cartridges, you can almost use everything from 0,12 mV to 0,6 mV and a wide range of load impedance.
