Fun for card and dice game fans
Dragonwood is one fo Gamewright's more recent releases, and one of their strongest titles. At a first glance of the contents, it looks like a cutesy game, but it's anything but!
Players gather teams of warriors to face enemies lurking in Dragonwood Forest, including two deadly dragons. There are rummy-style elements to the game, as you assemble warriors of similar "traits" (sequential or similar card numbers or similar card numbers) to plan your strategy. The battles are won or lost with a roll of the dice; the more warriors in the battle, the more dice you roll. The d6 dice are weighted for an average roll of 2.5 and a maximum roll of 4 per die. Much of the game is wagering your warriors against the odds.
There are other elements to the game to provide twists, but they are left for you to discover.
The game box and components are high quality. It comes in beautiful textured matted box, and looks beautiful on a bookcase. The red dice are acrylic and the cards nearly approach the quality of those seen in Fantasy Flight Games' card games.
Dragonwood is a great value for its retail price, and is a near-perfect mix of chance and strategy. Children and adults can play together without it being frustrating or annoying for either, and everyone can appreciate its rustic fantasy theme.

Highly Recommended Title
Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit recreates the 4-front Battle of Naboo from Star Wars Episode I. The box is loaded with miniatures (each figure is one solid color), including Battle Droids, Gungans, Kaadus, MTTs, AATs, Naboo soldiers, Two Queen Amidalas (one is a decoy), Naboo fighter, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. The game play is fairly easy to learn. There are various strategies either side can take: Do you allocate all tour resources on the Naboo field? Do you focus on defeating Darth Maul? Do you try to take out the Trade Federation Battleship? The game is weighted in favor of the Sith and Trade Federation, so the more experienced player should take the role of the Jedi and Naboo side. Technically, you could win the game gambling everything on Anakin, but it's all a game of chance at that point. It's best played trying different strategies against one another. Game mechanics include cards which enable the player to take actions, and dice for combat resolution. The dice are color-coded and depict symbols for easy battling. The entire 3-D board is impressive as well, and a great landscape for the game. Under the Avalon Hill name, it is from the post-Hasbro acquisition period, but every bit as worthy as any classic Avalon Hill game. Whether or not you are the lucky winner of this auction or you can find it somewhere else, THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT is highly recommended for any combat board gamer.

I wish it was in just a little better condition, but considering this product's vintage, it was just fine. Thank you.
