2 Scarlattis....
Scarlatti was playing on Radio 3 as it dawned on me that there were 2 Scarlattis so I ordered this one to compare ....men being decapitated seems to feature highly in Baroque music & art, I can't think why! Anyhow I liked the music on this cd and tho it didn't have much information in the booklet with the cd you can download from Brilliant Classics words in English & Italian.which is a help

Mary Brunton
I had never heard of the author, before reading a bit about her in Sara Sheridan's "The fair botanists" (that's well worth reading too) & as Mary Brunton was writing about the same time as Jane Austen who liked this book, am giving it a go. This isn't written on a small piece of ivory but even though it favours long paragraphs somehow I feel I'm not reading a book but watching a film, her scene & character descriptions are that good. These days she would need a strict editor! and you need a bit of patience, but worth it I think.

Handel's Orlando
It is played by William Christie & Les Arts Florissants & have to admit don't know the singers, but enjoyed listening to them. The plot comes from Orlando Furiouso a hit poem of the Baroque era which has been used by a myriad of composers of the time. Time travel would be wonderful to see this performed or perhaps like us the audience of the day had to use their imaginations ....
