Decent hooks and brackets, poor hardware, poor finish
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Bought these so I could have some front recovery points instead of just the axle, just wanted something cheap but sturdy until I can get a proper bumper.
Definitely plan on buying some new bolts for these if you get them for actual off road recovery. 3/16” thick brackets seem alright (1/4” would be ideal), hooks claim 10000lb rating, and the two 1/2” grade 5 bolts to secure each hook to the bracket have higher shear strength than the hooks are rated for, however the main through bolt included for the frame bracket is only a 3/8” carriage bolt with no markings and the kit does not include longer/stronger bolts for the three M10 bumper mounting bolts. I went with a 9/16” grade 5 for the main bolt, and M10 grade 10.9 for the bumper bolts. My local parts store had the 9/16” for cheap and there’s lots of M10 10.9 bolts at the junkyard. Not a deal breaker but a big oversight in my opinion, I would like to see the hooks as the weakest part of the whole kit. Ideally you’d never break them but at least it’s better to have half a tow hook flying through the air than an entire 5lb bracket.
The rope retaining clips are just stamped mild steel, they are NOT spring steel and will need to be bent back after pretty much any use. I expect these to fatigue fairly quickly. Obviously not meant for consistent use with large ropes/straps. No concerns pulling straight on the hooks, as they are designed for, but the 3/16” brackets and M10 bumper bolts definitely don’t look like they’ll hold any kind of side loading. That’s to be expected from what are essentially oem tow hooks. Might hold alright if pulled inboard, (like when doubling a recovery strap with both hooks), but looks like they would tear off if pulled outboard with force. It’s worth adding a reinforcement plate and nuts/washers to the inside of the frame at the two forward bumper mounting bolts on each side to replace the cheap threaded clips.
Last thing, the bracket finish is just a low gloss black paint, was already chipped a little out of the box and I expect it to rust up pretty quick if not repainted. I’ll be using some cheap spray can bedliner to touch them up.
