Excellent and inspiring Amish fiction
I love good Amish fiction, that is certainly what this is. I do not care for all authors of this genre, but Suzanne Woods Fisher never fails to please, and this is one of my favorite books of hers!

Movie that is like a meaningful meditation
This movie is simply excellent. It stimulates INNER feelings and questions. It is not trying to stimulate you at all in the external sense. Nor is it trying to frighten. There is much beauty in it, and I found many surprises. A movie to make you feel, wonder and above all feel a deep sense of hope.
Robin Williams was great in his role, as were Cuba Gooding, Jr. and the others. Very well done. What Hollywood movies would be like more often if the corporate interests bought most of it off back in the first half of the 20th century. Now they are pandering to theatres that want horror and violence in the movies. Why? Because then people buy more popcorn!! (Supposedly a true story!)

Historical -- factual content regarding early days of Mormons blended with fictional story
As with Marian Wells' Starlight trilogy, this 2-book series is compelling reading, especially when you know that all the information regarding the early days of Mormonism is based on well-researched fact (which those who are still blinded by this religion will tell you is fictitious, because someone told them so). The Starlight trilogy is from the time Joseph Smith was a young boy until his death; whereas this two-book series picks up with the times of Brigham Young and moving on into the Salt Lake area. I can't say it is "fun" reading or even entertaining; as I find so much of the deception and blind following -- which is all too human -- distressing, but it is much easier to read this history in the story format than as a dry text. (Marian Wells does give some of her references of research in this book as well.)
