Comprehensive and fast
I got this because I liked other Franklin electronic dictionaries - looking up words is faster and more reliable than with a paper dictionary or a smart phone - and because it has the Collegiate Merriam Webster's Dictionary, so I expected it to have more words than the plain Merriam Webster's Dictionary on most of these old Franklin units.
It indeed has more words, and etymologies for much more words, than the plain MW dictionary. I was able to find words that were only in the Collegiate, like "enthymeme" and "ontology."
You can also turn this on and it goes straight to the word-entry screen, rather than require you to choose a book, which means it is quite easy to use and optimized for the kind of person that looks up several words in one sitting. On the downside, it only has a plain dictionary, not a biographical or geographical dictionary, like the MWD-1500 has.
