Vortex Viper PST 4-16X50 SFP EBR-1 MOA Rifle Scope Excellent Condition w/ Extras
    20. Jun 2016
    Superb.
Vortex really thought through this design. The EBR reticle is superb if you think in MOA. The power ring has a useful feature that really doesn't get much press. The ring is marked at 16, 8, 5.6, and 4 power. Each of those have a slight click when turning through the power range - just a very minor tactile feel. Those magnifications correspond to the reticle ranging and holdover marks. It allows you to chose a power and mentally adjust your holdovers in known amounts. At 16x the hash marks are 2MOA apart. At 8x they are 4MOA, 5.6 = 6MOA & 4x = 8MOA. Genius. The system bridges the gap and benefits between a FFP and a SFP reticle. I think you get the best of both worlds. The illumination is fantastic. First experience with this idea and it is pretty nifty. Even at the highest settings, it does not glare out or reduce the resolution of the reticle. At lower illumination powers, it just cleans it up a bit to make it more visible. In bright sun, the unlit reticle is perfect. Very fine but easy to see. This one is about as fine of a reticle as practical. There is a lot going on there, but once you get used to it, it doesn't seem cluttered. As one would hope the windage and elevation adjustments are a pleasure to use. I won't attempt to subjectively assess the glass or clarity. In this price range you get better glass than my eyes can resolve. The eyepiece focus ring is questionable design to me. I'll leave it to say that I'm not accustom to a reticle adjustment ring that does not have a lock. I get that this is a more tactical feature, but it still seems odd to me. Several times it has been inadvertently turned while transporting, etc. Not hard to fix, but don't get the why. Someone will certainly school me. Sunshade is awesome and welcome that it isn't a separate purchase. Every scope needs one. Scope covers/caps from Vortex are marginal. I think they could be better. Maybe there isn't a market for a better/expensive cap. To my way of shooting and thinking, a BDC reticle WITH a good set of exposed turrets is the way to go. Giving up one or the other restricts the usage. I like the option of dialing in a wind call or adding a click or two of correction to a called shot. Paired with a useful BDC it is flexible and reliable. Put a good ballistic calculator app on your phone and you are a genius in the field. Strelok Plus is my favorite app and includes the EBR-1 reticle for exact yardages for each hashmark.
