Excellent Read for Comic Fans

I'm a lifelong comic reader and a huge Squirrel Girl fan, and this book, despite being written for much younger readers, is a delight for comic readers of all ages. Doreen is an extremely likable character and this book, much like her comic, exemplifies why she has gathered such a following in the past few years. The humor is well done and accessible, as well as similar in style to that of the comic book, really making them feel as though the book is a prequel to Squirrel Girl's ongoing monthly series. This book is not only a highly entertaining superhero tale, but is also a very sweet story about a girl just trying to fit in and overcoming her insecurity about being who she really wants to be. This message speaks to a lot of young teens and what they go through in middle school and high school. It's a positive message about how they shouldn't be afraid to put themselves out there. If you have a child who wants to get into comics or stories about superheroes, but aren't sure if the comics are content appropriate, I'd pick this up for them. Whether they read it by themselves or you read it to them, they're bound to enjoy it.
