Works but you have to be patient.
I have a 55 gallon tank that was full of green algae, I did almost everything, until a decide to give a try to this green killing machine(I bought the 24 watt), it took almost 5 days to clean my tank, my tank is out side my house and receive sun light in the afternoons(not directly but still) you can see pictures of the results, after the five day I put clear water from API, and the picture speaks for itself self.
