Does everything it needs to
It's just a flimsy piece of tin, so unpack carefully so as not to bend it out of shape. OTOH, once you mount a HDD into it the assembly is solid enough, so I can't quibble. Thicker or sturdier metal would not make it any better, and might even make it more difficult to fit into the tight confines of the HDD cavity in the laptop. Although it looks cheap, every hole and tab lined up perfectly. Comes with HDD screws and laptop bay screws, and a handy, black insulation sheet to keep the caddy from touching the HDD circuit board.

Perfect fit, provided you've got the right part number
6 von 6 finden das hilfreich Any 3.5" will mount into this caddy via four pins that fit into the drive's mounting screw holes. The plastic caddy is flexible enough to bend so the pins can be fitted into the holes. The caddy then slides into the drive bay in the computer and snaps into place.
Buyer beware: Dell does not use the same caddies for all computers. Some may appear to be of similar design, but there are at least two different slide-and-snap designs with finger tabs, and more if you count other designs and caddies for 2.5" drives. I have computers with both caddies, and can confirm they are NOT interchangeable. The caddies are slightly different heights and use slide rails of slightly different sizes. They're so similar, though, that I don't know why Dell didn't just use the same caddy for a larger group of computers instead of feeling compelled to reinvent the wheel somewhere along the way.
One of my computers uses caddy part #YJ221 and the other is #DN8MY. Each is shared amongst a large group of different Dell computer models, but the groups are not interchangeable. Note not all computers use the caddies with the finger tabs, so there are even more designs if you count the tab-less designs. I'm focusing on these two in this review because they are so similar as to confuse people. (And to make matters worse, for some reason Dell even uses multiple part numbers for the exact same pieces.)
If you can identify which part your computer uses, search eBay by that part number. If you can't find a number on your existing part, search eBay by model until you can identify the part number, and then search by the part number. Not all eBay listings list every computer model that part is compatible with, so you'll get better results if you can search by part number instead of only by the model. Even if the eBay listing does not specifically list your computer model, it will work if you get the right caddy part number.
