A great kit for my favourite wargame.
While I don't usually collect Dutch forces for Team Yankee, but the M113 kits are for the most part universal. The main difference between nationalities is typically the models provided for the crews and the stat blocks on the included cards.
I needed three of them to fill the numbers for my US Army M106 Mortar battery, and I had enough leftover crew to put assemble them normally.
The kit came sealed as from the factory, and using standard tools with only a little bit of work, came together quite neatly.
Painting the models was a pleasure. I started with a base coat of Vallejo black surface primer, then used paints included in the Vallejo Model Air MERDC paint set and some watered down Citadel Agrax Earthshade to achieve the paint job I desired.
The vehicle commander and mortar operator models by Battlefront are often cast in resin or metal, so they often need super glue rather than plastic cement, and can require a little extra care. Though this isn't an issue so long as they're primed and glued properly and not dropped.
On the tabletop, the M113 offers a cheap but reliable platform for recon or troop transport, or even air defence and anti-tank capabilities if you buy the M901/M163 kit. The M106 however comes as a cost effective light artillery platform for most NATO forces. It is quite useful at threatening enemy infantry or light vehicles that your manoeuvre forces can't easily deal with, or can be used to put up a smoke screen to either cover an advance or withdrawal.
Dutch M106 platoons have the option of replacing the mortar with a heavier 120mm variant that's even capable of threatening enemy tanks. Though they can only field three guns in a platoon, leaving their volume of fire limited.
Any NATO player should strongly consider adding some M113 platforms to their force, and Warsaw Pact players shouldn't let themselves underestimate this rugged little workhorse!
