EXCELLENT AND EXTRAORDINARY!!!
This is the unrated version, with 12 minutes added, that was shown outside the U.S. The film, from the book by Margarite Duras, is the autobiographical tale of when she was 15, in 1920s Vietnam, and began an affair with a Chinese male a dozen years her senior.
There are multiple scenes of intense lovemaking, with full frontal nudity by the female lead, Jane March, when she was just 18, and barely of age.
Miss March is as beautiful as was the country when the French attempted to colonize it. There is conflict within the family, between the eldest of two brothers and her, conflict because of a lack of money, and ultimately, conflict between the two lovers.
If you're searching for the unconventional tale of love and lust, with no inhibitions, this film has it all--and is worth multiple viewings for the telling of the tale, and the beauty of Miss March.
