A very large book, but a great buy if you're interested in details of the Civil War
I bought this Atlas of the Civil War because it was recommended as a companion to U.S. Grant's Memoirs, the annotated edition, by one reviewer. I didn't realize how large this book is: 13.5 inches by 16.5 inches by 1.6 inches and almost 12 lbs. It's huge and won't fit on a normal-size book shelf. But having become accustomed to it being hugely oversized, I find it interesting and useful. Other reviewers have complained about its organization. I'm still working through its indexes, which cross-reference the maps to the original military volumes from which this book is compiled. That point should be kept in mind. This is not a book to read. It is strictly a reference. As such it is superb. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of its size, which makes it difficult to use. It is about twice the size of even a large coffee table book. But for the price it's a real bargain.
