A great watch to please many tastes
This watch belongs to a line of Bulova Quartz watches that come with a rather exclusive movement. It has ben developed as a homage to the original sweeping-second battery operated tuning fork Bulovas of the 60s by the current owner of Bulova brand, Citizen of Japan.
According to my very best knowledge, this is the only modern sweeping second quartz movement (in wrist watch size) available. The second glides very beatifully, and is very pleasing to the eye. Additional nice feature is the reasonably high accurary of these movements, so beyond the curiosity value these things are surprisingly accurate too.
Unlike many quartz movements of today, even the ones that can be found on $300-600 swiss brands, this movement is quite well made and seems to have a fully servicable/repairable construction. The running gears are secured under all-metal bridges (which in turn are fastened with screws), and there are 8 jewels reducing wear in most critical bearing points. It even appears that the stepping-motor axis has been equipped with an anti-shock device, which is very impressive for any quartz movement under $1000 range. Another curiosity of the movement is the torsional 3-dimensionally oscillating quartz crystal, supposed to provide better accuracy for this exceptional high frequency quartz.
The movement runs on a rather common 3v cell of CR2016 -type. Readily available virtually anywhere. The movement is very quiet, you have to place the watch right at your ear to hear the ticking. The ticking is actually similar to the sound of the escapement of a very high frequency ( 36.000 bph) high-end mechanical timepiece.
This model is very versatile to fir many occasions and styles. Applied hour markers give it a nice, refined touch. The dial has a nice 3D-wave pattern effect on it. The lume is acceptable, while not comparable to Superluminova-illuminated watches.
Even if you would not be so much into the technology in it, this watch would likely fulfill/exceed all you expectations for a stainless steel quartz watch. The case/bracelet are well made and finished, and the watch is quite comfortable to wear, even on a skinnier wrist. The case is quite slim and sits rather low on the wrist, making it easy to slip under the sleeve when being worn formally. The watch comes with a good quality solid steel/solid end piece bracecet that comes with 1/2 bits to ensure better adjustment.
I am very pleased with this watch, and actually can't find much to criticize. Definately offers much more value than many many other in its price range.
