REVIEW: TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW - Sara Groves
Someone I happened to know (who doesn’t particularly like Christian Music), told me I needed to check out Sara Groves music. Coming from him, I thought I would venture a listen. He sent me some video links. The moment I heard her music I was incredibly impressed with her deep lyrical content and how she delivers a song. It wasn’t the run of the mill kind of stuff you hear on Christian radio, and as a listener I found I couldn’t listen passively…I was fully engaged. The first song of Sara’s I heard was “When The Saints.” I was immediately captured by her style and penetrating lyrics, the kind of music that draws you in as a listener. By the time I heard the next 2 songs, “It Might Be Hope” and “Love Is Still A Worthy Cause” I knew I was hooked. Brown Bannister’s production work on this CD is masterful…creative without overwhelming the pure artistry of each well crafted song. Too often I hear great production that once the basic song is stripped of it-you have nothing left. However, Sara’s substantive songwriting skills would make that quite impossible. Her voice is beautiful and sometimes haunting, reminiscent of another Sarah…one Sarah McLachlan with maybe a touch of Sheryl Crow thrown in for good measure. . There is not one song on this album which I don’t like which is a rarity for me. I picked up another of her CD’s on EBay (of course) and am ready for a third…I told you I’m hooked! MICROSOFT ZUNE 30 GB review
MICROSOFT ZUNE 30 GB: Quality and value Last November I began looking for an MP3 player for my son for Christmas. Of course, the big dog, or the one you hear the most hype about is the Apple IPOD. So I began my EBay search there. I put a few on my watch list, bid on a number of others but thankfully, didn’t win. I don’t know about you, but I shop on EBay to try and get a better deal than I can just walking into my local electronics store. Of course, part of that equation must include shipping costs as well. Then a fellow office worker said she had bought a Microsoft Zune, which I had never heard of (I must live a sheltered life). She had nothing but praise for the Zune and this got me excited. I then bid and eventually won one for my son. He was absolutely thrilled with it. We are PC people and from the time we plugged it in it was awesome. With either Vista (which we have on our laptop or on XP which I use in my home office, it almost runs itself. Its ease of operation is a major plus, especially for my teen-ager who can be a bit impatient with new technology. The screen is a wide screen and has excellent resolution. Yes, the bigger screen makes the Zune size bigger overall than the more compact IPOD, but when it comes to watching video or looking at photos, “bigger is ALWAYS better!” Having said all this, I haven’t even mentioned the “elephant in the room.” What elephant? PRICE! I came very close to winning a 4 GB Apple IPOD Nano. The final price differential between the two players was only $12, but the difference in storage space and capability between the two is enormous. It was not like comparing “apples to apples, but apple to an orange, if you will pardon the pun! In my opinion with the introduction of the Microsoft Zune, the IPOD is over rated and way over priced. The Zune gets my vote for giving the customer much more bang for the buck…especially if you’re a patient bidder like myself and work at getting a great deal. Like they say, it’s more fun when you win it!
