High Adventure & Doing the Right Thing
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This movie is about doing the right thing. When terrible weather forces a research group to rush from camp in such haste they have to leave their dog sled team behind (with a plan to return within days that doesn't work out), a man struggles to do the right thing and somehow get back to Antarctica to rescue his dogs. Beautiful scenes and high adventure mark this movie of how these dogs made out as the days and weeks went by as they tried to survive the brutal Antarctica winter. Based on a true story, you'll love it! If you love dogs, you'll love it even more!!!

Code-Name Downfall is a good buy!
I bought downfall because I was looking for something new to read about WWII; I have read many many WWII books and wanted to read about something not in your standard WWII book.
While Downfall did cover the entire Pacific War, it offered a slightly different view from the Japanease perspective and some of the issues/plans the Japanease were dealing with. What I really liked about this book is the coverage of the plans to invade the Japanease mainland: "OPERATION DOWNFALL".
The book covered in detail the plans proposed and canceled as well as the planned final invasion. What was going on in Japan as the bombs dropped? Did some Japanease leadership want to continue the war even after Nagasaki? How did the Japanease plan to repel the American invaders? How many people would've died during the invasion? How many more bombs did we have in 1945? All of these questions and many more are answered in this book.
If you like reading about what could have been along with information that you really don't see much in print, this book is for you! A good read, no doubt!
