No quality control on blades and holders. Can't return.
A total waste of $338. I have a Grizzly 6” (Model GO604X) parallelogram jointer which has 4 knives. Dispoz-a-blade is a two person operation run by Dave Dean and his wife, Michelle. Michelle handles the orders and customer service and is quite snarky. I meticulously made sure the infeed and outfeed tables were cojoiner down to .002. First, and most important, the dispoz-a-blades have terrible quality control. They rest on a very tiny stop/nub that protrudes from the holder and rests on the edge of the cutter drum. The slightest deviance in the tolerance of how this stop is machined into the holder makes the holder and blade sit either too high or too low against the cutter drum. A user in Fine Woodworking (read his comments) had the same tolerance problems I had. He called Dispoz-a-blade and spoke to Dave Dean. Dave told him to file the nub down. Really? No manufacturing quality control? The blades have holes in them that fit into a small round protrusion that is machined into the holder. Again, the slightest deviation in the machining tolerance compounds how high or low they sit above the drum. A traditional jointer knife rests on jack screws that you can adjust up or down to make sure each end of the knife is at the same height. My holders and blades were poorly machined with tolerances that caused every blade/holder combinations to sit either too high or low on the cutter drum. Second, know that the blades are not 6” long, they are 5 7/8” long (see pic) which makes it hard, if not impossible, to joint a 6” board. Third, the dispoz-a-blades are very thin, 1mm thick as opposed to 3mm or 1/8” thick for a traditional blade. Finally, the cost is insane. I paid $338 for a set of 4 traditional blades and their holders. A set of 3 traditional high speed steel blades sell for around $30. Traditional blades can be adjusted up and down from front to back by the jointer’s jack screws. Traditional blades can be adjusted with a good gauge like the One-Way MultiGauge which costs $107 down to perfect tolerances that eliminate any snipe. Save your money. Save yourself the frustration of dealing with a company with poor quality control and terrible customer service.
