Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins
So maybe this first novel of Robbins' is not his best (personally I liked Skinny Legs and All far better than the other two I've read so far) but if you love this master of the metaphor, this irreverant iconoclast (oops, sorry for the redundancy), this playful philologist then you will enjoy this warped peek into a tiny slice of Americana. The story, oh, did I say story, well that might be a slight exaggeration since Robbins often disregards plot as a public nuisance, like your neighbor's pool behind an unlocked gate. But I digress. As Hamlet once said, "The play's the thing..."; in the case of this novel, the word is the thing and Robbins is a genius at putting words on the page that trickle across our imaginations and allow us to chortle our way into his bizaar world. One of his favorite critters to attack is the Catholic Church (an easy target since it was responsible for killing millions of Jews, Muslims, Protestants, witches, anyone non-catholic during the Crusades and the Middle Ages). Don't get me wrong, there really is a plot line and interesting characters but we've had great plot lines and characters, this is so much more. It's not excellent; it's good.

I've been using the disk for a couple of week now, daily, grinding down surfboard resin and it's showing very little sign of wearing out; very pleased with the product
