The New Testament & Other Writings by B. Ehrman Review
I have purchase this book in conjunction with a university level religion course in which I am currently enrolled. I find the book comprehensive and truly based independent in theory from the Judaic-historical basis that some Churches appreciate as a Judeo-Christian approach. While Ehrman uses the two document approach, and for those who understand t he structure of the canonical critique will, understand this, will see that Ehrman has much to add to the current contexts and later protestant reform movements which strip the unnecessary context away from the modern day reader for a truer sense of the political situations in the New Testament.
The book as a overall resource is helpful as it includes further discussion boxes and maps that bring the focus to study. Students of the Scriptures will appreciate the binding style, the timelines, further reading bibliography and the chapter expectations for first time critical historical comprehension.

Les Miserables
The cast is outstanding! Versus others, like teh london cast it is a matter of preference for aparticular voice, but even those are excellent in comparision.
For this cast it is Frances Rueffle versus Lea Salonga, this Fantine, Randy Graff is excellent versus the redition of the London's Patti Lupone, whom I usually love (in Evita). Colm Wilkinson will always shine as Jean Valjean, as he carried oth productions in UK and Broadway. Judy Kuhn (Chess US) and Michael Ball (Aspects of Love) are stellar members of the cast.

Evita the American Recording
I love this album of all the three or four major Evita albums. I do love Patti Lupone's strength and tenacity of character that comes out of her performance. Within her singing strength Patti Lupone's performance even surpasses the Elaine Paiges' London performance, which made her famous in UK. I believe that Elaine Paige is shouting rather than singing and is then, for me, a less talented performance of the singspiel technique. THis is a technique perfected by Ms. Lupone and a definition of her style. For me and many other fans, Lupone shines in this role and really defines a standard of excellence in the great mezzo belter voice for the musical stage of the last thirty years.
Ms Lupone's crystal clear singspiel is the best of the best she uses it to embody the personality of a grown woman who used her body to get to the top. As a historical person Eva Peron was at best said, of her autobiography, 110 pages, commonly referred to as "illiterate" and at worst "a lucky whore with a penchant for facist-like popularity " in the public. Che Guevara, portrayed by the silky rawness of Mandy Patinkin, has the best lyrical role of his career and outshines any of the Che's before or after the role he assumed in 1979.
All the roles blend to a vocal style that is not over shouted or competitive with, one performer over another which is found with the likes of Elaine Paige, in all her major performance roles. nor is this cast mismatched as the oversweetened styles of Madonna verses Antonio Banderas' non singing style in the "Waltz for Eva and Che" Even though Che Guevara is not have said historically to have been directly impacted by Peronism, it can be thought incorrectly, that he was personally involved. He was reactant to the ideals that surround suppression of the era, I suppose. I am responding to a track that reads "Just a man who grew and saw from 17 to 24, a country bled, crucified, she's not the only one who died..." It is asserted that Che is being used as a complied voiced character of opposition to both Juan and Eva Peron's rise to power.
Overall, the lyrical skills of this American recording surpass the newer Elena Roger 2006 cast, done in an ALW attempted revival of the music-stage "to south americanize the sound of the orchestrations," actually then casting Roger, who is Argentinian, i believe, but she is weakly voicing one of the most powerful women in the 1950's and her voice has little speaking ability to do what Eva Peron did that "frenzied power to whip up the crowds- her descamisados."
In my opinion this later attempt failed to capture that which Lupone has kept as her role. Other "Paige fans" will disagree, but to me Paige sounds like an overgrown girl and shouts much of the soundtrack. Even in the videos available online Paige, refuses to sing and sounds as though the role is too much out of her range. Yet, to her credit, she is much better than the horrid sounds of Julie Covington in the concept album.
To her discredit as an singing actress, Madonna tried to copy the sense of what I hear is this Covington style. Madonna only won the Golden Globe for the best original song, "You Must Love Me." Important to note, this is NOT part of the original staging, nor is it on this CD. I can say it is not really missed, either.
