Hori New Nintendo 3DS LL XL TPU Duraflexi Protect Case Cover Clear JAPAN

Light, strong and unobtrusive, would definitely recommend.

Purchased this for my FE Fates Edition New 3DS XL and am very satisfied with the cover. Doesn't look or feel tacky like some of the hard cases I've seen available elsewhere. The case is quite glossy so it will be more visible with a darker colored console, but it suits a white/light colored console very well. It might not save your DS from a hard fall, but it offers very good protection against stains and scratches. The only thing I could hold against it would be its relatively high price, but if you own a special edition console or want to keep your DS in good shape without purchasing a hideous hard plastic shell, it's well worth the money.
