Another great title in a classic series. A must buy for those keen on British mammals.
Although I've other reference books on these fierce mustelids, this is the best and most up to date by far.
As with other Collins NN books it's lavishly illustrated and pitched at both general wildlife enthusiasts and specialised mammologists. This may be the most comprehensive reference for British stoat, weasel and similar UK predatory mustelids there is.
I've read a third of the text so far and it's both well-written and informative, with quite a few facts about these mammals I didn't already know. It's about the right length too -- just under 400 pages -- as some Collins NN can be too chunky lately and have some superfluous content. A flick through of the chapter titles reveals that this is a decent natural history of these mammals.
Since mine was under half the cover price it was a bargain for this reference book. Only slight quibble is the cover art is less compelling than some in the series, IMO.
A great addition to the NN series and, although I've rarely seen stoats or weasels on my wildlife excursions I'll know more about them if I do encounter one.

An excellent reference for anyone who wants an in-depth understanding of our ponds.
I've a number of New Naturalists and bought this at a good price after viewing some sample pages and reviews online. Read it from cover to cover in a few days.
As a reference for British ponds and their history, formation and importance this is a well written, reasonably well illustrated and authoritative source. The Collins NN books tend to be getting longer (this exceeds 600 pages) but much of the material is interesting and informative, only a little strictly not relevant to modern ponds and their ecosystems.
The survey of flora and fauna found in ponds is not that detailed, but other references should be consulted for this. It took a week to read this book and was a little dry in places, but also hugely informative and containing plenty of data and facts I didn't know about ponds.
Another excellent Collins New Naturalist book. The recent ones tend to be more 'academic' and full of data than older titles, but that's no bad thing.

One of the Better Genesis Unofficial Live Recordings -- But Imperfect
This is a well-known Genesis bootleg recording from the group's Selling England US promotional tour. There are better gigs from this period (e.g. The Rainbow Theatre, London) and a couple worse than this.
First the good aspects. The sound quality isn't bad, with little audience noise and only the slightest tape hiss in quieter sections. It has interesting spoken Peter Gabriel stories between the tracks and you get around 1 hr 20 mins of the concert and a bonus of Watcher.. and Musical Box recorded at another venue the same year. It's well performed as usual though Hackett's guitar does get swamped by drums and keyboards at times.
On the downside, Supper's Ready fades abruptly near the end (around 3 minutes missing) and the card cover is basic in terms of text and illustrations. A jewel case would've been preferable. The cover image is a generic photoshop one. Also, it's a less complete Selling England than The Rainbow gig.
Worth getting if you're a serious Genesis fan.
