An entertaining read.
Prof. Tuplin is generally entertaining and frequently provocative. This book is no exception. His conclusion is that the fireman was the real source of Great Western power!

A great read!
Rolt was a great writer, both detailed and entertaining.
This is a compelling account of railway accidents in the steam age.
This copy is in good condition and was excellent value.

A fascinating survey!
O S Nock is arguably the best person to write about speed records on British railways in the steam era.
The account is comprehensive and thorough, but still very readable.
I was amused to note that, contrary to popular myth, City of Truro almost certainly reached 100 mph but Flying Scotsman probably didn't!
An excellent read!
