A Southern Cookbook to End Southern Cookbooks
This is the first of three exceptional cookbooks issued by the Alabama Chapter of the SC Telephone Pioneers of America. This book has been through many reissues and is the easiest to find. If you purchase any one of the three “Calling All Cooks” editions, I would recommend this one (“the yellow one”). This recommendation is not because what the second and third book lack, but the breadth and quality of recipes and recollections in this initial book. The second edition (“the red one”) and the third edition (“the blue one”) are each outstanding additions to any cookbook collection as well. They are normally more expensive than this one but worth finding.

Zora Neale Hurston
A terrific collection of Zora Hurston’s works. Whether you are unfamiliar with her work or have been an adherent for years, this is a great edition to own and, obviously, read.

Great look at this piece of Americana
An enjoyable book on the origins of the gas station in all its many evolutions. Part history and part nostalgia, it’s a nice way to pass the time and take a look back at what once was.
