Good course manual but with limitations
This is a book that I need for a Level 3 NVQ course in Beauty Therapy I'm studying. However, there is considerable duplication with the Level 2 NVQ course manual. The other book I have been instructed to buy for the course covers Anatomy & Physiology, yet for the price I would have expected a higher and additional level of this content to have featured in the Level 3 manual. The Level 3 course book could make reference to the Level 2 book (same author) for the necessary information; after all, you are required to have completed Level 2 before you can do Level 3, rather than including large sections of exactly the same material. Both books would benefit from clearer indexing with numbered sub-divisions and sub-sections for easy reference. Looking at the Contents page for Chapter 1, for example, there is an unnumbered section (6th in the list) about Health & Safety in the workplace on page 14 with a jump to the next section (7th) on page 36 about Hygiene and Infection control in the workplace. It would be much more helpful if the contents listed the sections in numerical order: 1.6 Health and Safety in the workplace p14. as well as including the following sub-sections: 1.6.1 Legal obligations and responsibilities p14. 1.6.2 Health & Safety at Work Act p16. 1.6.3 HSIER p17. 1.6.4 Hazards and risks p18. 1.6.5 COSHH p19. etc etc before moving to the next section 1.7 Hygiene and Infection Control in the workplace p36. again with numbered, listed sub-divisions: 1.7.1 Infections p36. 1.7.2 Sterilisation p37. and so on. Apart from seeing at a glance what a section covers and being able to find the information quickly, it would be much more useful when writing assessments and revising for exams.
